British Vogue - March 2015 - We have a picture featured!
It can be hard to know when things are going in the direction you hope sometimes, difficult to ensure that your hopes and ambition are leading to results you can measure (if only for yourself) and know you're on the right track. Not so long back when Lisa and I set up Him and Her, we knew we wanted to aim for the highest standards, to be creative, to be different. We knew we wanted to have our pictures shown in Vogue!
In an industry such as wedding photography, there are all sorts of ways to show you're getting along ok, we'd seen them happening around us, but wanted something we felt meant something to us both personally. We'd previously spent some while shooting fashion and fine art, and in that arena, for a picture to go in front of the photo editors of Vogue Italia, meant a hard nosed industry expert had given the nod and suggested 'that's good, you did good'. On our first wedding shoot together, we achieved that, and it's hard to describe how chuffed we were!
So, anyway, back in November 2014 we shot a beautiful Suffolk based wedding at Ickworth House and as the day unfolded two shots from a lovely collection earned their place with Vogue.it. But later on we fuond we were asked if two other pictures from the bridal preparation could be shown, in March's British Vogue magazine, and of course we said yes!
So, there it is I guess, one of the indicators that we're doing ok and following our course successfully, it's something of a privilege (bearing in mind Lord Snowdon and Helmut Newton's work appear in the same magazine) we're really pleased, and we know our Bridal clients are over the moon to think they've been in one of the biggest fashion and style magazines on the planet.
But you know what?
The most important and most likely thing to make us happy in our work? A good testimonial. For a couple to take time out to write to us and offer their thanks is worth more than anything else in print, however glossy. That recommendation and appreciation is a one off, unique, and it proves beyond doubt that we really got that day 'just right'.
