Sunflowers and smiles at Euston Hall

Last year we had an absolute blast with Emily and Will during their engagement shoot. Here is a link to the blog post. We were so excited to photograph their wedding and can't believe it's taken us this long to share it on our blog. Thank you Emily and Will for doing the blog questions for us. Certainly one of our favourites of 2107!

What was your vision for your wedding day?

From the very start we both wanted something relaxed, informal, fun and far from the conventional wedding. We had seen the giant tipis and really loved this style but thought they were far from our budget. However we only intend on getting married once so why not go all out.

Groom's attire

Although a custom made Savile Row suit was high on the list of priorities the budget would not quite stretch. We ordered lots of options online and after weeks of fashion shows around the lounge and complaints of trousers being too baggy, Will settled on a pale grey checkered suit from ASOS. The fit was just perfect! Will had even organised for our initials to be embroidered onto the collar of his shirt. The bow ties were handmade by Wills mum in a liberty print, baby blue to complement the suits for the groomsmen and baby pink for Will. His shoes were a gift I had brought for him for Christmas one year, only ever to be worn on special occasions.

The planning process

As I manage events for a living I think everyone was expecting amazing things so we hope the event did not disappoint. The main focus of planning was completed around a very detailed spreadsheet, this way nothing could get missed. Although many of the deadlines were not met the day ran without any major glitches. On the day management was by a lovely lady called Debbie who works with me.

Finding the dress

I am not great at making final decisions so this was a relatively long process, especially as I could not ask for Wills help with this one! Everything that I thought I would love just did not look quite right. Clare Bridal Studio was the last shop of many that I visited and the dress I finally picked was the last one I tried on, although I had a second visit with some of the bridal party just to confirm this choice. Originally I was not going to go for a veil but as the dress did not have the light flowing skirt I had dreamt of I thought a long veil with a bit of sparkle would do the trick. And the shoes ….. these were from Ted Baker and much against traditional advice these were purchased before the dress. I customised the flower girls so they were the perfect match to mine.

What made you cry on the day?

It was a very emotional day and as I am sure you can tell from the pictures, Will was caught on camera many times with a tear in his eye. For me, it was during the ceremony and the end of my brother’s speech.

What was your most memorable moment of the wedding?

For me it was seeing how emotional Will was when the girls and I entered the walled garden and walked down the aisle. My Aunties reading was also a special touch, I did the same one at her wedding when I was a child. It was also really great how lots of family members came together had really enjoyed themselves.

For Will it was seeing me walk down the aisle, although I am not totally sure if it was me that stole the show. Our nieces did a really excellent job at winning over the crowd with their flower girl duties.

What’s your favorite photo from your wedding day?

As always this is a very difficult question to answer. We really like the portrait photos, these are the special moments we shared away from the party. The photos are just beautiful.

What made you laugh on the day?

My brother’s wedding speech was totally out of this world and really did surprise us. In all honestly we thought it was going to be a quick, thanks for coming, but he really did pull this one out of the bag. This included going to areas of importance in my life as well as breaking into our home whilst we were on holiday!!!

For Will, his brother’s best man speech made him laugh. He certainly did not disappoint with the stories that came out from Wills younger days. There were also some laughable moves that made an appearance on the dance floor.

The VENUE – we only gave ourselves 1 year to plan so lots of venues were already booked. Luckily Euston Hall do not hold many weddings and happily booked us in. It is so beautiful we really did not need to add much. The ceremony was in the Walled Garden, which had lots of stunning planting. The tipis were positioned on the North Lawn where there were bright floral borders and large trees.

The FOOD - there are no kitchens in the middle of gardens so our choice of food within budget was limited. We opted for fish and chips, which also reflects our love of the coast. Evening food was good cheese, cold meat and rustic breads. We also had an icecream van run by Antonio who has served me ice cream at Newmarket Racecourse for a long time, even before I worked there!!

The DÉCOR - the tipis and rustic oak tables really do speak for themselves. They come complete with lots of fairy lights….. so magical. I just wanted to add lots and lots of flowers, especially sunflowers. Most of the flowers, which family members arranged, were from family gardens. This allowed a real variety, thank you to one of the bridesmaids who handpicked the sunflowers from her father’s field. We topped up our own supply from a local wholesaler.

The ENTERTAINMENT – A night to remember mobile discos were great and really got the party going. The fire pit outside also set a nice ambiance and of course there were giant marshmallows.

Advice for other couples

I plan and manage events almost every day and I may have slightly underestimated how much there was to do on the 2 days leading up to the event. Not everything always goes to plan but we got there in the end with lots of help from friends and family, accept their help when they offer. Also everyone will always tell you it is the best day of your life… you better believe them because it really was.

The honeymoon

We had booked a mini moon in Bournemouth so we could spend some time on the south coast. Luckily under the circumstances we were allowed to cancel as in late February we received a card in the post from my family telling us to extend our holiday booked with work. All details other than the dates were top secret and no one was letting out any hints!! Secrets do not tend to last long in our family so I am surprised this one did until the honeymoon location was announced at the end of my brother’s speech. We had an amazing week in Dubai and really treated ourselves to some great experiences; I mean it is once in a lifetime.
