Gosfield Hall, Stately spring wedding

We're terrible at remembering to blog, what with shooting, editing, consultations, travel and keeping all the other internet based functions going. So, here's a few of our favourites from a wedding this year at the splendid Gosfield hall in Essex where we shot the wedding of Bobby and Danielle, a modern couple who wanted a traditional and  very English backdrop to their day.

Unusually, we led this blog with a couple of pictures of the chaps doing their thing pre-ceremony.  It's easy to concentrate on the bridal preparation with all the hair and make- up going on, pretty dresses and flowers etc - but it's also great for the Bride to see what her intended was up to at that time. Grooms tend to drop into two categories when we have our early consultations - either

A - Happy to go along with whatever is suggested or

B - Feeling a bit awkward and weird about having photo's taken.

Either is OK with us, we're used to this and make a real effort to have everyone feel as comfortable as possible on the day and to relax - there's enough already to think about! However, getting great pictures of the Groom is just as important to us as of the Bride, and we're set up easily to do this as each can have a photographer with them at this time. Perhaps we'll do a blog about posing etc for Grooms?

Ok, so of course there were some bridal preparation shots too, how could we not share them? Gosfield hall has number one of the ten best bridal suites in the United Kingdom as listed for 2014 with hitched.co.uk  - and they really weren't exaggerating! As grand and beautiful as it was, our Bride Danielle looked totally at home and really lit the room up.

Below are some shots of the ceremony, taken in the ladies gallery - a very long, quite narrow room with loads of windows designed for ladies in huge dresses to exercise when the weather outside was poor. For a large room it gave a lovely intimate atmosphere for the family and couple and despite the size and shape was easy for Lisa and I to cover from opposite ends without shuffling around and spoiling the moment. We feel that ability to shoot both sides at the same time makes a real difference to our ceremony coverage and our being still and not using flash ensures nothing is lost of the atmosphere at a really special time.

Formals... for some couples really important, for others an old fashioned idea. For us, we think a few well chosen formals is a great idea, and something we encourage. Certainly a large group shot showing the entire wedding part is always fun and something couples will enjoy viewing in the future. bear in mind how hard it can be for families to get together these days, and that in time the littlest of the party will have grown tall, whilst the more senior members will have left a happy memory of sharing your day. The shot below is typical of the moment before the big shot, and though not grand in wedding photography terms, shows so much of the mood and personality of those pictured.

Well, it would have been a real shame to miss out on some of the great light and architecture of the venue and we got a real sense of our couple Danielle and Bobby wanting to capture the mood of the day and perhaps even of their English roots, since they planned to emigrate to Australia soon after the wedding. Hopefully they'll have something to show new friends down under of what their home country can be like.

In the seated pictures, Lisa captures a feeling we got from our couple throughout the day, one of a great bond in friendship as well as romance, a really natural and open couple who were a real pleasure to work for. Perhaps this next set of pics demonstrates our 'classic and contemporary' approach pretty well?

Best until last? Well, we both came away from the day elated and tired. So many great people and pictures but also something we don't get to enjoy so much in Summer or Winter weddings - darkness without it being too cold outside! I'd been playing with an idea for a nighttime outdoor portrait, and so had Lisa. We were both able to get some really great shots, and though our approaches were different, both seem to have captured something about the couple we'd wanted to get across. Bobby and Danielle were so pleased with their collection, we hope they enjoy them again and again in their new life in Australia.

Him & Her Wedding Photography

We’re Neil & Lisa and we LOVE weddings; the activity, the settings and the people who come together for a special day. As a couple we’re able to offer our own perspectives on the wedding, with a feel for the Bride and Grooms roles and to ensure that we’re always in the right place to catch the big moments (we don’t spoil your day by feeling ‘in the way’.)  For us, being a part of your special day, catching the emotions and happiness gives us both real satisfaction and we think this shines through in our images.

We hope you enjoy our site and can find the things you need to make a decision about your photographers for the wedding day. If there's something you don't see or do need to talk about please do get in contact either by telephone or by using our enquiry form (both) on the contact page. We're looking forward to hearing from you soon.
